After the Cuban Revolution, the U.S. embargo stopped all trade with the United States. That included all cars and mechanical parts. The cars that were in Cuba at the time - mostly 1950's American vehicles have been kept running by their owners ever since, many passing down from generation to generation. Cuban ingenuity have kept these old American cars on the road. Mechanics use whatever parts they can find or modify to keep the cars running - they are truly the wizards and MacGyvers of the automotive world.
This image was taken in Parque Central where there are plenty of classic cars to choose should you decide to go for a ride. Personally, I believe it would not be a trip to Havana without taking a ride in these iconic classic vehicles.
